Different Strokes for Different Folks: An Analysis of Similarity and Diversity in Web Search
Relying purely on query-page similarity when ranking Web search results limits the scope of the result set to the detriment of search performance. In this paper we propose that introducing diversity into the ranking metric can increase topic coverage without adversely affecting result relevance in the face of vague queries.
متن کاملDifferent EGFR gene mutations in two patients with synchronous multiple lung cancers: A case report
Routine clinical and pathological evaluations to determine the relationship between different lesions are often not completely conclusive. Interestingly, detailed genetic analysis of tumor samples may provide important additional information and identify second primary lung cancers. In the present study, we report cases of two synchronous lung adenocarcinomas composed of two distinct pathologic...
متن کاملRole of caveolin-1 in regulation of inflammation: different strokes for different folks.
THE ARTICLE BY HU ET AL. (10) describes a novel role for caveolin-1 in regulating antimicrobial responses of neutrophils as well as inflammatory lung injury. Previous reports had documented expression of caveolin-1 in immune cells (9), including professional phagocytes such as neutrophils (38), but its functional role was not well understood. Hu et al. provide compelling evidence for the pivota...
متن کاملDifferent strokes for different folks? Revealing the physical characteristics of smartphone users from their swipe gestures
Anthropometrics show that the lengths of many human body segments follow a common proportional relationship. To know the length of one body segment – such as a thumb – potentially provides a predictive route to other physical characteristics, such as overall standing height. In this study, we examined whether it is feasible that the length of a person's thumb could be revealed from the way in w...
متن کاملPrevalence of EGFR Mutations in Lung Cancer in Uruguayan Population
BACKGROUND Incorporation of molecular analysis of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) gene into routine clinical practice represents a milestone for personalized therapy of the non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, the genetic testing of EGFR mutations has not yet become a routine clinical practice in developing countries. In view of different prevalence of such mutations among d...
